If you go over this mileage in the first year before your extended guarantee takes over then it was obviously a waste of money. So just make sure that you would be able to use the extended guarantee if you decide you want it. Also consumable items are not covered on many policies, which is fair enough you might think. But make sure you check what they consider a consumable item is, ask for some examples. Also the warranties will not cover wear and tear on the vehicle, make sure they make it perfectly clear what this is. It is very frustrating if the warranty company refuses to pay out on a small technicality.

So in conclusion, yes extended automotive warranties do offer peace of mind, just check and work out in your own mind whether or not you would be able to use it, and also check exactly what it covers. Personally I think it would be better to leave the extended warranty and just make sure that you get your car serviced on a regular basis, servicing will prevent your car being out of action whereas an extended warranty will only help you put the car right once it’s already gone wrong.
